Run like the wind!

STICKY POST!

I have decided that running is fun! But running without purpose is getting boring.

So, I am going to run a half-marathon in March 2010!
Rotorua Half-Marathon

But before I do that, I just want to get my body up to speed so, this is my first big (-ish) running event
Round the Bridges 12K - Hamilton

To people interested in running, here is a list of where I get the events from:

Round the Bridges Training - Week 8, Day 7

"I run so my goals in life will continue to get bigger instead of my belly."
- Bill Kirby

Last training before the event on Sunday! Well, I might go for a 30 minute walk tomorrow but yeah, this is it. I don't want to break any records in the race or anything. I just want to finish and by god, even if I have to crawl to the finish line, I will do that 12K.

I was stuck in a conference all day today so I was definitely glad to get out on the road after I got home. Today was supposed to be soccer day, but I got home late from the conference and if I'd shown up for soccer I would probably get 15 minutes of play time so I decided to flag it.

Conference in a fancy hotel means fancy food. So I ate way too much for morning tea, lunch AND afternoon tea. In between, I probably had like 16 pieces of mint to try to keep awake. That probably explains the terrible, terrible stitch I had (so bad that it was hard to breathe!). I pushed on anyway and finished my route in decent time despite some headwinds.

Oh, also, that made me regurgitate most of my lunch. So now I am hungry again.

Workout duration: 35 minutes

Weather conditions: Windy and overcast. 13-15 deg.

Round the Bridges Training - Week 8, Day 6

If you can run, run. If you can't run, walk. If you can't walk, walk anyway.

So, no run yesterday because it was so pissy and cold. Went extra hard today while doing my usual 5K route. For some reason I had a stitch and kept burping. It was supremely uncomfortable. I think it might have something to do with the banana/choc chip muffin and bacon&egg quiche I had for lunch. Lol. That would teach me a lesson not to eat like a damn pig if I had to run after work.

My 50+ year old colleague finished his first half-marathon a couple weeks ago under 3 hours. It was rather inspiring. Age is clearly not a barrier if you train.

Workout duration: 34 minutes.

Weather: Windy but sunny. 20 degrees.

Round the Bridges Training - Week 8, day 4

"Running is a lot like life. Only 10 percent of it is exciting. 90 percent of it is slog and drudge." Dave Bedford

<3 the sun! :) Wish there was no wind though.

Workout duration: 53 minutes

Weather conditions: Headwinds/crosswinds but super sunny! 19 degrees.
